With bases in both Oxford and Banbury our pest control team are well located to serve all areas of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire (Bucks) and the Thames Valley. Hawthorn Pest Control are fully qualified and have extensive experience in dealing with all manner of household, garden, commercial and agricultural pests on both business and domestic premises. Some of the most familiar pests we deal with on a regular basis include Rats, Mice, Wasps, Fleas, Bed Bugs, Moles, Foxes, Rabbits, Squirrels, Pigeons, Ants, Fleas, Flies, Moths and Cockroaches.
In many cases, in smaller domestic environments or gardens, all that may be required is one or two visits. In the case of wasp nest removal our pest controller will usually complete the job in a single visit, however, other pests may require further ongoing visits depending on the environment and population.
Depending on requirements, commercial and agricultural pest control can be performed on either a one off or on-going contractual basis. Where a larger area of land is involved, such as when working on a countryside estate or in and around large agricultural farm environments, the number of visits required will depend on the type and population of pest we are dealing with. We always undertake a detailed survey to assess the situation, provide a full report outlining the plan of action, and arrange future visits accordingly.
In all environments, both domestic & commercial, regardless of size, we first perform a survey and environmental risk assessment to decide on the best pest control methods to use. Our primary aim is to ensure our customers pest problems can be dealt with in the most efficient, humane and cost effective manner possible.
To give you some idea of what to expect, the methods we use, and the number of visits that may be required for certain kinds of pest, please continue to the information below, but always be aware whilst we are very proud of our reputation and ability to "get the job done", in certain environments, especially on much larger areas of land with certain types of pest, complete eradication on a long term basis is not always possible, in those situations its often more a case of controlling and managing the pest population rather than complete eradication - for any pest control company to state otherwise would be stretching the truth!
However, you can be assured we will take as many steps as possible to ensure the potential for future pest problems is kept to the absolute minimum, and in addition, also provide you with advice on preventative measures you can take yourself to help minimise the chance of any further pest issues.
Please see the details below for information on some of the more common pests we manage
Hawthorn Pest Control is registered with the British Traditional Mole Catchers Association and always use traditional pest control methods to catch moles. The number of visits required to catch moles is very much dependant on the population and environment. Moles live underground all year round, but are more active at the surface in damp warm weather, and due to their heightened sense of hearing and movement, even more so when there is a lack of human activity above ground - thus the reason the first sign of a mole problem is often discovered early in the morning in your garden when you wake to a lawn full of fresh mole hills. For more information about mole catching please see our dedicated Mole Control page.
Bed bug and flea removal can usually be completed within one or two visits and generally involves the use of a professional spray. Bed bugs are actually quite common, and certainly not related to personal hygiene, and although most common in bedding, they can also be found lodging on your sofa or other soft furnishings, especially if you have pets such as a cat or dog. Both bed bugs and fleas can be easily picked up and unknowingly transported into a home by both pets and humans, on hair, fur or clothing. Fleas and bed bugs can even be unknowingly transported into your home in bags and suitcases after travelling abroad, visiting a hotel or camping.
We use a number of methods to control rats and mice, in addition we hold a licence enabling us to legally trap and remove Edible Dormice (Glis Glis). Removal of rats, mice and common rodents in the UK generally involves baiting and trapping, and by law requires a minimum of two visits, occasionally more depending on population. On farms, estates or larger areas of land, more regular visits may be required simply to keep the population under control as long term eradication of rats in certain environments may not be possible. In these situations as with rabbits and foxes, a number of other methods may also be used such as night shooting for which Hawthorn Pest Control are fully trained and qualified.
There are several options available to aid the removal of flies, moths and airborne insects, although the best pest control method to use depends very much on the environment and source of the problem. Our pest controllers provide an initial treatment with the aim of finding and removing any immediate issues as close to the source as possible, and in addition can supply and install various types of insect traps and electronic devices to help minimise future problems. This is an especially good option for bathrooms, kitchens, restaurants and public places where insects such as flies can present a serious hazard to health. We will also provide extensive advice on minimising future fly problems.
Wasp nest removal can generally be completed in a single visit, for this we use protective clothing and special insecticide available only to industry professionals. Wasps rarely nest in the same area twice, so in most cases one visit is all you will need. For more information please see our dedicated wasp nest removal page. Regarding Bees, our pest controllers are fully trained to safely relocate them in the rare event they are found to be nesting in an inappropriate area.
Much like moles, we use traditional methods to control rabbits and squirrels, and once again, the amount of visits required is very much dependant on the population and environment. There's no doubt rabbits are cute little creatures and can make great pets, however, they can also be the cause of extensive damage to plants and crops, especially on farm land and in agricultural environments.
Birds and Pigeons are also managed and controlled using traditional methods, in the case of pigeon control, we use netting, shooting and proofing. With both pigeons and birds, we will survey the envirnoment, decide on the best methods to use, provide a detailed action plan, and arrange visits accordingly at the most appropriate times.
Depending on the environment, Fox control is undertaken using a number of traditional methods. Often cage trapping and relocation, or occasionally night shooting. With both foxes and other vermin species, we first survey the situation, then arrange visits accordingly at the most appropriate times to ensure our work can be carried out in the most efficient, cost effective manner.
Cockroach removal can usually be completed within one or two visits, although this does depend on the extent of the problem and the area affected. We always endeavour to cover as many areas as possible on the first visit, then a little later a follow up to ensure the treatment has been effective and deal with any remaining issues if required. The same applies to ants and most other insects. We use a number of different methods depending on the type of insect and environment we are treating. Common methods used to control and remove cockroaches include baiting, spraying and trapping, and as with all our pest control services, we always provide advice regarding the preventative measures you can take to minimise future cockroach infestations.
